For the week that ended on December 7th, HBO Home Entertainment's season-set of
Game of Thrones' eighth season ended at Number One on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. This final season of the iconic
fantasy melodrama concluded in controversial fashion this year, with most episodes generating some high level of viewer and/or critical opprobrium. This week,
Game of Thrones had an HD market share of 53%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Marvel and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Spider-Man: Far from Home. A sequel to both
Spider-Man: Homecoming and
Avengers: Endgame,
Far from Home was one of 2018's biggest hits. The film netted decent critical notices (a
Metacritic score of 69%, for example) and made over
$1.1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $160 million production budget.
Far from Home had a solid Blu-ray market share of 68% and sold 43% as many Blu-rays as
Game of Thrones. On the overall package-media roster, the film came in fourth place (behind
Angel Has Fallen and
Toy Story 4, respectively) and sold 33% as many total units as the
Game of Thrones finale.
Finally, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Angel Has Fallen rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales list. The latest installment in Gerard Butler's hit
...Has Fallen series,
Angel Has Fallen was a solid earner for its distributor. Although the film scored poor critical notices (it has a
45% rating on Metacritic), it ended up grossing
over $133 million on top of its estimated $40-million production budget.
Angel Has Fallen had an HD market share of 57% and sold 41% as many Blu-rays and 38% total units as
Game of Thrones.
