For the week that ended on October 19th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Toy Story 4 remained at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Ostensibly the final film in the
Toy Story franchise, this fourth entry connected with both critics and audience last July. The film garnered very strong critical notices (it has a
Metacritic score of 84%), and it earned over
$1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $200 million production budget. This week,
Toy Story 4 had a very solid HD market share of 70%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
3 from Hell. The third film in director Rob Zombie's "Firefly Clan" series (after
House of 1000 Corpses and
The Devil's Rejects),
3 from Hell couldn't use its cult status to gain conventional box-office success. The film had a mediocre track record with critics (note its
50% score on Metacritic), and it only grossed about
$2.2 million on top of its $3-million production budget.
3 from Hell had a solid Blu-ray market share of 60% and sold 35% as many Blu-rays as
Toy Story 4. On the overall package-media chart, it came in third place (behind Disney's
Hocus Pocus) and sold 41% as many total units as the
Toy Story sequel.
Finally, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Marvel's
Spider-Man: Far from Home rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales rankings. A sequel to both
Spider-Man: Homecoming and
Avengers: Endgame,
Far from Home was one of 2018's biggest hits. The film netted decent critical notices (a
Metacritic score of 69%, for example) and made over
$1.1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $160 million production budget.
Far from Home had a solid HD market share of 68% and sold 34% as many Blu-rays as
Toy Story 4. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the film came in fourth place (behind
Hocus Pocus and
3 from Hell) and sold 35% as many total units as the Pixar hit.
