For the week that ended on September 14th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's recent Aladdin debuted at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The latest live-action opportunity for Disney to remake its animated back catalog, Aladdin was quietly one of 2019's biggest success stories. Although the film scored mediocre critical notices (it has a 53% rating on Metacritic), it ended up grossing over $1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated 183-million production budget. This week, Aladdin had a very good Blu-ray market share of 79%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. This third installment in the John Wick action franchise did well with both critics and audiences last May. The film scored good critical notices (it has a 73% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing $171 million domestically on top of its estimated $75-million production budget. Parabellum had a solid Blu-ray market share of 72% and sold 88% as many Blu-rays as Aladdin. On the overall package-media chart, the film sold 97% as many total units as as the Aladdin remake.

Finally, another version of Aladdin from Walt Disney Home Entertainment rounded out the Blu-ray-only sales ranking. A perennial favorite since its release in 1992, this animated adventure-comedy, with its great Robin Williams performance, made its long-awaited debut on North American Blu-ray platforms. The film was a smash success, grossing over $504 million worldwide on top of its $28-million production budget in 1992; when adjusted for inflation, that total comes to about $855 million. The film had an HD market share of 100% and sold 13% as many Blu-rays as the live-action Aladdin. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the film came in fourth place (behind Avengers: Endgame) and sold 11% as many total units as the other Aladdin.
