For the week that ended on August 31st, Warner Home Entertainment's Godzilla: King of the Monsters debuted at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. A direct sequel to the 2014 Godzilla and the latest installment in Warner and Legendary's Godzilla/Kong franchise, King of the Monsters wasn't the surefire hit the studio wanted last summer. The film scored mediocre critical notices (note its 48% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing $100 million domestically on top of its estimated 170-million production budget (although it did net an extra $275 million overseas). This week, Godzilla: King of the Monsters had a decent Blu-ray market share of 67%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's The Secret Life of Pets 2. This animated comedy - the sequel to 2016's The Secret Life of Pets 4K - was a decent success following its release last June. The film scored so-so critical notices (it has a 55% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing almost $426 million worldwide on top of its estimated $80-million production budget. The Secret Life of Pets 2 had a Blu-ray market share of 58% and sold 66% as many Blu-rays as Godzilla. On the overall package-media chart, the film sold 76% as many total units as as the kaiju epic.

Finally, Marvel and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Avengers: Endgame rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The MCU's massive, three-hour conclusion to eleven years of cinematic serialized narratives, Endgame did well with both critics and audiences last April. The film scored good critical notices (it has a 78% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing almost $2.8 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $356-million production budget. The film had a solid HD market share of 72% and sold 60% as many Blu-rays and 56% as many total units as Godzilla.
