When making a film about a controversial subject, it is often difficult to represent the subject matter in a way that will appeal to general audiences. Tread too lightly on the subject, and the message can be lost or misunderstood; tread too heavy, and the message feels forced and heavy-handed. It's the ability of '
American History X' to present a great story and an important message seamlessly that makes it a must own title being released on Blu-ray today.
For the role, actor Edward Norton packed on 30 lbs of muscle and became the modern day monster Derek Vinyard, a neo-nazi skinhead who is quickly rising in the ranks as a leader of misguided youth. When his hate eventually lands him behind bars, he discovers that the world he thought he knew was nothing but lies, and must rescue his younger brother from suffering a similar fate.
During the editing process, Norton made significant changes to the film which resulted in director Tony Kaye attempting to remove his name from the project. Unfortunately for Kaye, the changes made by Norton helped develop the film into one that was not only critically acclaimed, but also rated by IMDB viewers as one of the best films of all time. It also exposed Norton's ability to write and direct, strengths he continues to utilize today.
The award films just keep coming with the Blu-ray release of the Oscar Award nominated film '
Doubt' and the 2007 Academy Award winner for Best Picture '
No Country for Old Men: Collector's Edition' being released today. 'No Country' was previously released on Blu-ray, but Disney is re-issuing the title again with additional bonus features and a digital copy. The original release was nothing short of spectacular, so this upgrade is for fans who need more supplements only.

In light of all the adult focused content hitting the shelves today, families will want to pick up '
Winged Migration' and '
Fly Away Home' to enjoy together. 'Fly Away Home' tell a riveting story which Staff Reviewer Greg Maltz says "rises above the typical family drama and into territory that can only be called inspired... There is simply nothing negative to say about this Sony release."
