For the week that ended on August 3rd, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's Alita: Battle Angel remained at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Written by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez, this visually stunning sci-fi epic struggled to connect with domestic audiences following its release last February. The film only scored mediocre critical notices (it has a 53% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing almost $86 million domestically on top of its estimated $170-million production budget (that said, the film did much better overseas, to the tune of a $319-million international gross). This week, Alita had a very solid Blu-ray market share of 74%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Hellboy. Direct Neil Marshall's controversial reboot of the cult comic and film favorite (Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman popularized Hellboy with two previous features) was an unequivocal box-office flop last April. Critically, the best Hellboy could muster was a 31% rating on Metacritic, and it somehow did even worse with audiences, grossing almost $22 million on top of its estimated $50-million production budget. Hellboy had a good Blu-ray market share of 60% and sold 54% as many Blu-rays and 66% as many total units as Alita.

Finally, Warner and New Line Home Entertainment's Shazam rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. This peppy, light-hearted adaptation of the iconic DC superhero was a solid hit for the studios following its release last April. The film netted good critical notices (it has a 70% rating on Metacritic), and it ended up grossing over $364 million worldwide on top of its estimated $100-million production budget. Regarding the Blu-ray-only sales list, the film had an HD market share of 58% and sold 51% as many Blu-rays as Alita. On the overall package-media rankings, Shazam sold 65% as many total units as the James Cameron-penned manga adaptation.
