Eureka Entertainment has announced its October batch of Blu-ray releases. They are: The Dark Half (1993), The Dogs of War (1980), The Fate of Lee Khan (1973), and Fuller at Fox: Five Films 1951-1957.

The Dark Half

Synopsis: Masters of horror Stephen King (IT, THE SHINING) and George A. Romero (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) have created a gripping, creepy, frightening film that thrills, shocks and works us over! Featuring an intelligent screenplay and first-rate cast, including Oscar winner Timothy Hutton, THE DARK HALF will keep you captivated to the chilling end.

Horror writer Thad Beaumont (Hutton) hopes to distance himself from his murder novels and from George Stark, the pseudonymous name he has used to author them. To achieve this, he cooks up a murder of his own: a publicity stunt that should lay Stark to rest forever. But when the people around him are found gruesomely slain – and his own fingerprints dot the crime scenes – Beaumont is dumbfounded until he learns that Stark has taken on a life of his own…and begun a gruesome quest for vengeance!

Adapted from the bestselling novel by Stephen King, who wrote the novel as a nod to his own literary pseudonym, Richard Bachman, THE DARK HALF is an intense and shocking horror film, with a climax that stands up as one of the craziest of both King and Romero's careers.

The Dogs of War

Synopsis: Academy Award winner Christopher Walken (THE DEER HUNTER, PULP FICTION) is a brutal mercenary who must fight the ultimate battle – against his own conscience – in this powerful action thriller with a heart-thumping tempo. THE DOGS OF WAR is a spectacular adventure that brilliantly captures the horror – and glory – of war.

Jamie Shannon (Walken) is a cynical warrior-for-hire who only ever feels truly alive in the heat of battle, and now he's about to take on the most challenging assignment of his career: to invade a corrupt African dictatorship and shift control to the "puppet" of a powerful British corporation. To prepare, Shannon masterfully trains and equips a squad of deadly mercenaries with the latest and most destructive tactics and military hardware. But as their explosive assault begins, Shannon finds himself embroiled in an internal conflict of his own. Will this be his greatest triumph, or has he sold his soul along with his battle expertise?

Praised on release for its dialogue, action, and characters, THE DOGS OF WAR is a gritty masterpiece, and one of the best war movies of its era.

The Fate of Lee Khan

Synopsis: The final film in King Hu's "Inn Trilogy", and the follow-up to his highly-acclaimed A TOUCH OF ZEN, THE FATE OF LEE KHAN once again shows the master filmmaker's impeccable talent in creating drama out of a single setting. An espionage thriller with a unique wuxia twist and shades of Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI, the film chronicles a tense showdown between warriors on opposing sides of a civil war in a rural inn.

When Lee Khan (Tien Feng; A BETTER TOMORROW, FIST OF FURY) a dangerous and cunning Mongol official, and his equally deadly sister Lee Wan-erh (Hsu Feng; A TOUCH OF ZEN), arrive at the Spring Inn to obtain a battle map that reveals the location of the Chinese rebel army, a group of resistance fighters, including an all-female group of ex-convicts plan to recapture the map, whatever the cost.

As much a pre-cursor to the 'hangout' movie as it is an action packed wuxia adventure, THE FATE OF LEE KHAN features action choreography by Sammo Hung (EASTERN CONDORS) and also stars the incredible Angela "Lady Whirlwind" Mao, The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present King Hu's THE FATE OF LEE KHAN on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time in the UK, from a new 2K restoration.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • NEW 2K RESTORATION
  • Optional English subtitles
  • Original Mandarin audio, available in original mono (uncompressed on Blu-ray) and restored 5.1.

Fuller at Fox: Five Films 1951-1957

Synopsis: A towering figure of American cinema, Samuel Fuller was a master of the B-movie, a pulp maestro whose iconoclastic vision elevated the American genre film to new heights. After the major success of THE STEEL HELMET, Fuller was put under contract by Twentieth Century Fox after being impressed by Darryl F. Zanuck's direct sales pitch (other studios offered Fuller money and tax shelters; Zanuck simply told him, "We make better movies.").

Over a six-year period, Fuller would produce some of the best work of his career, (and therefore, some of the best films in American cinema), an uncompromising series of masterpieces spanning multiple genres (the Western, the War film, film noir, the Crime-Thriller) that would establish the director as a true auteur, whose influence continues to be felt today.

Collected here are five films from this fruitful period, all presented from stunning restorations. The impossibly tense Korean-War drama FIXED BAYONETS! (1951); the outrageous and confrontational spy-thriller PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET (1953); the Cold War submarine-actioner HELL AND HIGH WATER (1954); the lushly photographed, cold-as-ice film noir HOUSE OF BAMBOO (1955); and the audacious Western with a feminist twist, FORTY GUNS (1957).

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • LIMITED EDITION BOX SET [2000 UNITS, INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED]
  • All five films presented on Blu-ray in 1080p, with FIXED BAYONETS!, PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET, HELL AND HIGH WATER, and FORTY GUNS presented from Fox's stunning 4K restorations, with HOUSE OF BAMBOO presented from a 2K restoration
  • Original, uncompressed, monaural soundtracks for all films
  • Optional English SDH available for all films
