For the week that ended on July 6th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's
Dumbo remained at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Director Tim Burton's live-action remake of Disney's
iconic 1941 animated feature,
Dumbo struggled to connect with critics and audiences last March. The film garnered mediocre critical comments (it has a
51% rating on Metacritic), and it then went on to
gross $114 million domestically on top of its estimated $170-million production budget. This week,
Dumbo had a solid Blu-ray market share of 61%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Disney and Marvel's
Captain Marvel. The MCU's first female-centric superhero story,
Captain Marvel proved a sizable hit following its North American release last March. The film garnered very decent critical comments (it has a
64% rating on Metacritic), and it then went on to
gross over $1.1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $152-million production budget. The film had a decent Blu-ray market share of 66% and sold 73% as many Blu-rays as
Dumbo. On the overall package-media chart,
Captain Marvel sold 67% as many total units as the Disney remake.
Finally, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Escape Plan: The Extractors rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The second sequel to the Sylvester Stallone-and-Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring prison thriller
Escape Plan, this DTV actioner reunites Stallone with his
Reach Me director John Herzfeld. Regarding the Blu-ray-only sales list, the film had an HD market share of 45% and sold 27% as many Blu-rays as
Dumbo. On the overall package-media rankings,
The Extractors sold 36% as many total units as
Dumbo.
