Vinegar Syndrome will add four new titles to its Blu-ray catalog this July: Roger Watkins'
The Pink Ladies (1980), Peter Wittman's
Play Dead (1983), Douglas Schulze's
Hellmaster (1992), and Henri Pachard's
Mascara (1983).
Play Dead
Synopsis: Hester Ramsey (Yvonne De Carlo) lives in a cavernous old house, with only her pet Rottweiler, Greta, to keep her company. Bitter and alone, Hester blames her estranged sister for stealing away her one true love, Sam, decades earlier. Following her sister's death, Hester begins to plot a diabolical revenge, using her knowledge of the black arts to place a spell on her dog, and then gifting the satanic beast to her grief stricken niece, Audrey (Stephanie Dunnam). Soon, those closest to Audrey begin to get bumped off by her newly cursed pet in a series of increasingly violent 'accidents,' as Hester seeks to kill off all of her surviving family and leave Audrey to take the blame.
A low key Texas lensed supernatural thriller that was produced by a construction company, Peter Wittman's PLAY DEAD, mixes Southern melodrama and a smattering of T&A, alongside its requisite bloodshed and occult tinged twists. Given only a scant theatrical release before being dumped to video, Vinegar Syndrome brings this regional sleeper to Blu-ray,
newly restored in 2K from its original 35mm interpositive.

Hellmaster
Synopsis: Decades ago, deranged Professor Jones (John Saxon) concocted a diabolical drug at a rural college called 'The Nietzsche Experiment,' designed to give its users telepathic abilities, but instead turned anyone who took it into violent lunatics. Now, 20 years later, Jones has returned to resume his experiments and avenge himself against those he feels wronged him and his work. Armed with a group of hideously deformed mutant slaves, it's not long before the tranquil college becomes host to vicious violence and carnage. A Detroit shot regional horror movie made at the decline of the direct-to-video era, HELLMASTER was the first feature from cult filmmaker Douglas Schulze (Dark Fields) and co-stars David Emge (Dawn of the Dead). Combining gothic horror and creature-filled narrative trappings with intensely colorful and Argento inspired visuals, courtesy of acclaimed cinematographer Michael Goi (American Horror Story), HELLMASTER was originally titled THEM, but was subsequently re-edited with new footage also added and released straight to video and cable several years after its initial completion.
Vinegar Syndrome presents this fascinating slice of creature horror in its original theatrical THEM version for the first time on home video, along with its more commonly seen HELLMASTER recut,
newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original negative under supervision from cinematographer Michael Goi.

The Pink Ladies
Synopsis: The second explicit directorial effort from exploitation filmmaker Roger Watkins, THE PINK LADIES follows the lives and fantasies of four Long Island housewives...and their husbands...and their lovers. As fantasy and reality collide, THE PINK LADIES are whisked into an ever stranger sensual dreamworld where secret desires, and secret lovers, intermix, leading to surprise revelations for all. Mixing light comedy with touches of low key surrealism, director Roger Watkins weaves a sensual tableau that simultaneously satirizes suburban sexual mores while exploring the hidden pleasures that even the most seemingly chaste housewives and businessmen can't help but enjoy.
With an all star cast of Samantha Fox (Her Name Was Lisa), Robin Byrd (The Robin Byrd Show), Christine DeShaffer (Fantasm Comes Again), Kandi Barbour (Ultra Flesh), Robert Kerman (Cannibal Holocaust) and Vanessa Del Rio (The Dancers), Vinegar Syndrome brings this under-seen X rated rarity to Blu-ray,
newly restored in 2K from its original camera negative and fully uncut.

Mascara
Synopsis: Harriet (Lisa De Leeuw; Dixie Ray: Hollywood Star) lives a repressed existence, working as a secretary in a Manhattan office. After discovering that her boss is secretly seeing a prostitute named Lucy (Lee Carroll; The Seductress), Harriet works up the courage to approach her to see if she can help her overcome her inhibitions. As the two women, from very different walks of life, become closer and closer friends, eventually moving in together, Lucy begins to feel that she's loosing her identity to Harriet's benefit.
A complex psychological drama written and directed by Henri Pachard (Babylon Pink), MASCARA features supporting performances from Lisa Cintrice, Tiffany Clark, Ron Jeremy, Bobby Astyr and Robert Kerman (R. Bolla). Produced, photographed and (uncredited) co-directed by Roberta Findlay, and scored by Walter Sear, MASCARA is an unforgettable exploration into the sexual psyche and comes to Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome,
newly restored in 2K from its original negative and featuring new interviews with Findlay as well as co-star Lee Carroll, both moderated by historian Casey Scott.
