For the week that ended on March 16th, Warner Home Entertainment's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald premiered at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. A prequel to the Harry Potter franchise - and the immediate follow-up to 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - The Crimes of Grindelwald underperformed for the studio in North America last year. The film netted average critical notices (it has a 52% rating on Metacritic) and went on to gross over $159 million domestically on top of its estimated $200-million production budget (it did make far more - to the tune of an extra $494 million - overseas). This week, The Crimes of Grindelwald had a strong Blu-ray market share of 67%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Mortal Engines. Like Grindelwald and Harry Potter, this adventure takes inspiration from a popular YA series. However, the film struggled to connect with audiences, scoring mediocre reviews (note its 44% Metacritic score) and grossing over $83 million worldwide on top of its estimated $100-million budget. Mortal Engines had a solid Blu-ray market share of 66% and sold 20% as many Blu-rays and total units as The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Finally, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Ralph Breaks the Internet rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. This spirited animated comedy - the sequel to the 2012 hit Wreck-It Ralph - did well with critics and viewers last year. The film netted good critical notices (it has a 71% rating on Metacritic) and went on to gross over $520 million worldwide on top of its estimated $175-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list, Ralph Breaks the Internet had an HD market share of 60% and sold 15% as many Blu-rays as The Crimes of Grindelwald. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film sold 17% as many total units as the Harry Potter prequel.
