For the week that ended on February 2nd, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms premiered at number one on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The end result of two directors - Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston - this holiday-themed fantasy struggled to connect with critics and audiences following its November release. The film scored relatively poor critical notices (it has a
39% rating on Metacritic), and it
grossed just under $55 million domestically on top of its estimated $120-million production budget. This week,
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms had a strong Blu-ray market share of 72%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Warner Home Entertainment's
Reign of the Supermen. This animated adventure acts as a direct follow-up to Warner and DC's recent comic-book adaptation
The Death of Superman.
Reign of the Supermen had a Blu-ray market share of 100% and sold 71% as many Blu-rays and 51% as many total units as
The Nutcracker.
Finally, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Hunter Killer rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales list. A submarine thriller starring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman,
Hunter Killer flopped after its release last October. It got less-than-decent critical notices (it scored a
43% rating on Metacritic), and it went on to
gross $15 million domestically on top of its estimated $40-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list,
Hunter Killer had an HD market share of 57% and sold 70% as many Blu-rays as
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film came in second place and sold 88% as many total units as
The Nutcracker.
