For the week that ended on January 12th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Venom held its number-one spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. This superhero spinoff - the titular character is one of Spider-Man's most infamous foes - overcame fairly toxic press and became one of the fall's biggest hits. Yes, it garnered poor critical notices (it has a 35% score on Metacritic), but it still went on to gross over $855 million worldwide on top of its estimated $100-million production budget. This week, the film had a good Blu-ray market share of 61%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Night School. Director Malcolm D. Lee's follow-up to his hit 2017 comedy Girls Trip, Night School was a modest success despite not finding the same kind of runaway approval that Girls Trip had. The newer film got poor critical notices (it has an 43% score on Metacritic), but it still went on to gross over $103 million worldwide on top of its estimated $29-million production budget. Night School had a Blu-ray market share of 46% and sold 53% as many Blu-rays and 70% as many total units as Venom.

Finally, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's Bad Times at the El Royale rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. This postmodern conspiracy thriller - director Drew Goddard's follow-up to his cult horror favorite Cabin in the Woods - struggled to connect with critics and audiences following its October 2018 release. The film scored average critical notices (it has an 60% score on Metacritic), and it then grossed over $28 million worldwide on top of its estimated $32-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list, Bad Times at the El Royale had a solid HD market share of 60% and sold 46% as many Blu-rays and total units as Venom.
