Blu-ray Sales, November 4-10: The Incredibles Return to Great Success

For the week that ended on November 10th, Pixar and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Incredibles 2 debuted at the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales charts. Director Brad Bird's long-awaited follow-up to his iconic 2004 superhero adventure, Incredibles 2 was a massive commercial success following its June 2018 release. The film scored terrific critical notices (it has an 80% score on Metacritic), and then it went on to gross over $1.2 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $200-million production budget. This week, Incredibles 2 had a great Blu-ray market share of 79%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was another Disney feature: the family dramedy Christopher Robin. This gentle, live-action reimagining of Disney's Winnie the Pooh adventures proved a modest hit for the Mouse House this summer. While not a huge critical favorite (it has a 60% score on Metacritic), the film grossed over $196 million worldwide on top of its estimated $75-million production budget. Christopher Robin had a very solid Blu-ray market share of 71% and sold 23% as many Blu-rays and 26% as many total units as Incredibles 2.

Finally, Marvel and Disney Home Entertainment's Ant-Man and the Wasp rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. After the massively consequential release of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, this second installment in the Ant-Man superhero series acted as a more modestly scaled palette cleanser. The Ant-Man follow-up scored decent critical notices (it has a 70% score on Metacritic), and then it went on to gross over $216 million domestically on top of its estimated $162-to-$195-million production budget. Ant-Man and the Wasp had a strong HD market share of 71% and sold 6% as many Blu-rays and 7% as many total units as the Incredibles sequel.
