Blu-ray Sales, October 28-November 3: Ant-Man Grows over Mamma Mia

For the week that ended on November 3rd, Marvel and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Ant-Man and the Wasp returned to the top spot on the Blu-ray-only sales chart. After the massively consequential release of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, this second installment in the Ant-Man superhero series acted as a more modestly scaled palette cleanser. The Ant-Man follow-up scored decent critical notices (it has a 70% score on Metacritic), and then it went on to gross over $216 million domestically on top of its estimated $162-to-$195-million production budget. This week, Ant-Man and the Wasp had a strong Blu-ray market share of 70%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. A sequel to the hit 2008 film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical, Here We Go Again proved almost as successful as its predecessor. While not a huge critical favorite (it has a 60% score on Metacritic), the film went on to gross over $393 million worldwide on top of its estimated $75-million production budget. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again had a Blu-ray market share of 54% and sold 79% as many Blu-rays as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the film came in first place (there, Ant-Man and the Wasp sold 98% total units as it).

Finally, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Hocus Pocus rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. Although not a critical or commercial smash following its release in 1993, this live-action Disney comedy has amassed a large cult following in its subsequent twenty-five years as a beloved Halloween favorite. Hocus Pocus had an HD market share of 45% and sold 63% as many Blu-rays as Ant-Man and the Wasp and 97% as many total units as the Mamma Mia sequel.
