Mitsubishi Announces In-car Blu-ray Player

Mitsubishi Electronics has announced that they hope to have a single-DIN Blu-ray player commercially available by the end of the year. The device - which measures 50x178x180mm - will be able to play BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE discs. The player operates on Linux, and is expected to be paired with the companies existing in-dash navigation system.

At CES 2008, Panasonic also debuted a single-DIN in-car Blu-ray player, though, at that time it was much deeper than a typical car radio. Mitsubishi has not indicated whether the unit will be made available to consumers, or if they will be used solely as OEM equipment from auto manufacturers.
