In the same press release that Sony announced the price reduction to the
BDP-S300, they also announced that they would be releasing a firmware upgrade next week for the
BDP-S1 in order to give the machine Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) and Dolby TrueHD support. Most significant is the TrueHD support which will allow the player to decode the popular lossless audio codec used in some recent and future releases from Sony and Warner Brothers.
An interesting note, is that the new BDP-S300 is supposed to have the same features as the S1, so this may mean a future upgrade to TrueHD for this machine as well, though we have not seen confirmation on this from Sony as of yet.
