'
The Bourne Trilogy' represents one of the most popular action film franchises in the past decade. Oddly enough, its not the use of high tech computer effects or overly-stylized fighting, but rather the lack thereof which makes these films standout. There are very few in the world who could honestly see themselves in such a unique character as Jason Bourne, but his struggle to discover his own identity and purpose is something that many can identify with.
While it is of course the films that make this Blu-ray release from Universal so excellent, the packaging adds that little extras pizazz that collector's are coming to expect from big releases. The box containing the three regular sized Blu-ray cases is held closed by a magnetic clasp that prevents you from dumping the discs on the floor when you grab it from your Blu-ray shelf. Very nice touch.
The films themselves look excellent. In fact, the only complaint I have is that I wish the blacks were a little deeper, though with so many night shots, I can understand that it may have not been obtainable without losing necessary detail. Overall, Universal has delivered another superb transfer that will make even the harshest critic smile. Audio too receives the star treatment, and the DTS MA soundtrack is really enveloping, providing crystal clear dialog and the kind of fidelity one would expect from a action packed film.
Another must own title from Universal!
Bill Murray has been making people laugh for over 30 years, and depending who you ask, playing reporter Phil Connors in '
Groundhog Day' is either one of his best roles, or one of his worst. Personally, I really enjoy this film, and Sony has done an outstanding job transferring the title to Blu-ray. The video encode is full of detail (thanks to Sony deciding to leave the grain instead of trying to cover it up) and the audio is so good, you wouldn't expect that such an old title would outclass many new releases. Fans shouldn't hesitate to pick up this new release.
