For the week that ended on March 3rd, Pixar and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Coco debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. This animated musical-comedy proved yet another success for Pixar's creative department. In addition to its
worldwide box-office gross of over $745 million, the picture scored terrific critical notices (a
81% Metacritic rating) and recently won Academy Awards for both Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature. This week,
Coco had a strong Blu-ray market share of 72%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Murder on the Orient Express. A star-studded adaptation of Agatha Christie's most iconic mystery,
Murder on the Orient Express proved a modest success after its release in November. While the picture scored mediocre critical ratings (a
52% Metacritic score), audiences responded more favorably to the feature, helping it gross
$102 million domestically on top of its estimated $55-million production budget.
Murder on the Orient Express had an HD market share of 55% and sold 14% as many Blu-rays and 18% as many total units as
Coco.
Finally, another Disney title -
Lady and the Tramp - filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only media sales list. Since its release in 1955, this animated dramedy has justified its reputation as one of the Mouse House's most enduring pictures. Over the years, it has grossed over
$93 million domestically on top of a $4-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only chart,
Lady and the Tramp had an HD market share of 100% and sold 12% as many Blu-rays as
Coco. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film came in fourth place (behind Lionsgate's
Wonder) and sold 9% as many total units as the Pixar venture.
