For the week that ended on February 24th, Paramount Home Media Entertainment's
Daddy's Home 2 debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. A sequel to the 2015 sleeper hit
Daddy's Home, the film didn't make as strong an impact with critics and audiences as its predecessor. The picture scored outright poor critical notices (a
30% Metacritic rating), and audiences only turned out to the degree that the film earned
$104 million domestically on top of its estimated $69-million production budget. This week,
Daddy's Home 2 had a Blu-ray market share of 53%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Wonder. This heartfelt family dramedy - an adaptation of R.J. Palacio's YA novel - proved an enduring favorite after its release in November. The picture scored decent critical ratings (a
66% Metacritic rating), and audiences responded strongly to the film, helping its gross
$292 million worldwide on top of its estimated $20-million production budget.
Wonder had an HD market share of 41% and sold 77% as many Blu-rays and 98% as many total units as
Daddy's Home 2.
Finally, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
The Star filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The animated adventure found modest successes among its faith-based audience. While its critical reviews weren't great (note the film's
42% Metacritic rating),
The Star went on to gross
$62 million worldwide on top of its estimated $20-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only chart,
The Star had an HD market share of 46% and sold 42% as many Blu-rays as
Daddy's Home 2. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film sold 47% as many total units as the
Daddy's Home sequel.
