Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Blu-ray

PBS Distribution has announced the Blu-ray release of Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The feature-length documentary focuses on havens for black intellectuals, artists and revolutionaries that have educated architects of freedom movements and cultivated leaders in every field. The Blu-ray streets on February 20th.

Directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson, Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities examines the impact Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have had on American history, culture, and national identity. Beginning with the earliest attempts at education to today's campuses, the 90-minute film airs nationally on the acclaimed PBS series, Independent Lens on Monday, February 19th.

Nelson, the preeminent storyteller of the African-American experience, teams with Firelight Films, the award-winning production company committed to making films about pivotal events, movements, and people in American history. The film provides a rousing journey through the complex history of how HBCUs offered a path of promise toward the American dream.

The project is funded with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Lumina Foundation.
