The Optoma booth at the 2009 CES was ablaze with two stunning new 1080p projectors on the verge of release. Chief between these is the HD8200, which will street in late January for $4999 MSRP. A demonstration with excellent image contrast, which played Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in a totally darkened room using a 2.35 screen with an anamorphic lens attached, showed off the amazing capacity of the 8200.
The HD8200 projector utilizes 1300 lumens and a 20,000:1 contrast ratio with DynamicBlack, equipped with a native 1080p DarkChip3 by Texas Instruments. The 1080p DLP DMD chipset from the latter company along with Optoma's exclusive PureMotion Technology allows the 8200 to deliver excellent color saturation and subtle details by smoothing motion and reducing judder. It also comes with ISF certified calibration controls with Day and Night modes.
Following shortly after in late February for an MSRP of $3499, the Optoma HD808 offers a more reasonably priced model for home theatre enthusiasts, using the same chipset and PureMotion Technology as the 8200. The 808 sports a native resolution of 1080p and utilizes 1200 lumens and a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, also with DynamicBlack.
