Collaborating with major providers such as ASUS, C-Media, and DTS, ArcSoft announced at this year's CES that the ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre now supports ASUS' Xonar HDAV1.3 PCI card, enabling the use of lossless 7.1 sound codecs for the first time, allowing a full Blu-ray experience. Audio downsampling is a thing of the past as ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theatre, when combined with the Xonar HDAV1.3 card, supports up to 192kHz, 24-bit sound.
Blu-ray.com has previously reported on the market-ready ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 card, though the exciting new development is the implementation of the Protected Audio Playback System, or PAPS, developed by ArcSoft collaborator C-Media. Blu-ray video content security had been achieved for some time now, but until now there was nothing similar for BD audio. Arcsoft worked with all parties involved to create a content secure path for audio. With every element in place, computer users can now have a home theatre system using their computers that rivals standard equipment like dedicated standalone Blu-ray players.

ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theatre is a powerhouse piece of software that does everything from a "SimHD" technology that upscales standard definition material, to implementing the DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC technology, another advanced audio feature resulting from ArcSoft's partnership with DTS. And just around the corner, ArcSoft plans to release a TotalMedia Theatre edition with D-BOX Motion Code compatibility. The software player would have the Motion Effects (MFX) programming built in and connecting directly to the chair, bypassing the need for external D-BOX hardware.
ArcSoft, like many other media companies, is playing with the feature of 3D in a home theatre setting, and showcased their own 3D demo using Sensio stereoscopic decoders and LCD alternating shutter glasses. The results, as was the case with most 3D demos at the show this year, was virtually seamless and very exciting. One can be sure that ArcSoft will implement 3D in their future software, should the industry reach a singular standard and market the feature.
