Kino: Two Remastered Early Films With Gloria Swanson Detailed for Blu-ray

Kino Lorber have dated and detailed two upcoming releases of early films with Gloria Swanson: Allan Dwan's Manhandled (1924) and Stage Struck (1925). The two releases will be available for purchase on April 10.

Manhandled

Synopsis: When her boyfriend, Jimmy, forgets a date, Tessie McGuire, a department store clerk, attends a party at the studio of Robert Brandt where she makes a hit with impersonations. There Riccardi offers her a job impersonating a Russian countess in his style emporium.

While she is fighting off suitors, Jimmy becomes successful with his automobile invention. However, when he returns to find Tessie wealthy in gowns, he accuses her of being "manhandled." Repenting her mistake, she is forgiven when he realizes her true feelings. The film was based on the short story "Manhandled" by Arthur Stringer in Satuday Evening Post in 1924. Cinematography by Harold Rosson (The Asphalt Jungle, The Wizard of Oz).

Stage Struck

Synopsis: Daydreaming waitress Jennie Hagen (Gloria Swanson) fantasizes about becoming a famous actress, while in reality she and her cook boyfriend, Orme Wilson (Lawrence Gray), hope to one day own their own diner. Although Orme loves Jennie, he also has a weakness for stage stars -- so when a riverboat theatrical crew comes to their town, he is smitten by lead actress Lillian Lyons (Gertrude Astor). Desperate to keep Orme, Jennie insists on going onstage to best Lillian, but is soon out of her depth.
