Panasonic never disappoints at CES, and 2009 is no different. As one of the leading developers of Blu-ray technology, Panasonic continues to break new ground as they add features to their award winning line of Blu-ray players. Panasonic's plasma business also received a few new intriguing introductions as well.
Panasonic pioneered the world's first portable DVD player many moons ago and this year, they've introduced the world's first portable Blu-ray player. The DMP-B15 includes Bonus View and BD Live connectivity as well as a high resolution 8.9" LCD screen. It's a sleek and well designed package that can also double as a fully functioning standalone player when used in tandem with a home theater setup. Pricing has not been released, but the player should be released mid-year. Panasonic has also updated their Blu-ray Home Theater in a Box systems with the SC-BT300. Featuring BD Live, Bonus View and full advanced audio support, it's a great way to experience the benefits of Blu-ray's advanced audio capabilities without the expense of a separate sound system and speakers.
Panasonic also introduced three new standalone Bu-ray players this year. The DMP-BD60, DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V all feature BD Live support, with the BD70V offering a built in VHS deck. I'm not sure exactly what the market is for Blu-ray / VHS combo players, but this is definitely a first. Finally, Panasonic introduced their new NeoPDP ultra-thin plasma panel. Measuring a mere 1/3 of an inch in thickness, the NeoPDP uses 33% less power than Panasonic's current plasma models. It's a beautiful TV, but no release date or pricing is currently set.
