For the week that ended on December 2nd, Warner Home Entertainment's
Wonder Woman remained to the top of the Blu-ray-only media chart. A standalone adventure designed to showcase Gal Gadot's Amazon warrior,
Wonder Woman quickly became Warner and DC's most beloved superhero fantasy since the release of Christopher Nolan's
Dark Knight Trilogy. After its premiere last June, the film scored good critical notices (a
Metacritic rating of 76%) and then went on to gross
over $820 million worldwide on top of its estimated $149-million production budget. This week,
Wonder Woman had a very robust Blu-ray market share of 80%. However, on the overall package-media chart, the film came in second place, where it sold 76% as many total units as that list's number-one title, DreamWorks' DVD-only release of
Trolls Holiday.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Spider-Man: Homecoming. This newly rebooted
Spider-Man adventure proved a reliable critical and commercial success for both Sony and its partner Marvel. The film garnered solid critical notices (a
Metacritic rating of 73%) and then went on to gross over
$879 million worldwide on top of its estimated $175-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list,
Homecoming had a solid HD market share of 69% and sold 85% as many Blu-rays as
Wonder Woman. Regarding the overall package-media sales list, however, the film came in third place and sold 75% as many total units as
Trolls Holiday.
Finally, Walt Disney Pictures Home Entertainment's
Cars 3 filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales list. The third feature in Pixar's animated
Cars franchise, Part 3 didn't make much of an impact with either critics or audiences. It earned average critical notices (a
Metacritic rating of 59%) and grossed just under
$153 million domestically.
Cars 3 had an HD market share of 58% and sold 70% as many Blu-rays as
Wonder Woman. On the overall package-media rankings, the film came in fourth place and sold 74% as many total units as the
Trolls installment.
