For the week that ended on October 28th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's War for the Planet of the Apes debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The final installment in Fox's rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy, War for the Planet of the Apes struggled somewhat to connect with both critics and audiences. Despite earning strong critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 82%), the film didn't make the same impact on the larger viewing populace, grossing just under $147 million domestically on top of its estimated $150-million production budget (in fairness, the film did better overseas, earning an additional $342 million in non-North American markets). This week, War for the Planet of the Apes had a solid Blu-ray market share of 61%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings was Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Spider-Man: Homecoming. The first entry in the newly rebooted Spider-Man series, Homecoming proved a reliable critical and commercial success for both Sony and its partner Marvel. The film garnered solid critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 73%) and then went on to gross over $879 million worldwide on top of its estimated $175-million production budget. Homecoming had a strong HD market share of 73% and sold 83% as many Blu-rays as War for the Planet of the Apes and 70% as many total units.

Finally, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's The Emoji Movie filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. Sony's attempt to capitalize on the success of Warner's The LEGO Movie met with strong resistance from critics following its July release. The film garnered incredibly low critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 12%), although it did manage to overcome that bad buzz to the tune of an $85-million domestic gross on top of its estimated $50-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list, The Emoji Movie had an HD market share of 45% and sold 31% as many Blu-rays as War for the Planet of the Apes. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the animated feature sold 41% as many total units as the third Apes entry.
