For the week that ended on October 21st, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Spider-Man: Homecoming debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The first entry in the newly rebooted Spider-Man series, Homecoming proved a reliable critical and commercial success for both Sony and its partner Marvel. The film garnered solid critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 73%) and then went on to gross over $879 million worldwide on top of its estimated $175-million production budget. This week, Spider-Man: Homecoming had a very strong Blu-ray market share of 79%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's Girls Trip. Director Malcolm D. Lee's raunchy comedy was one of Summer 2017's biggest sleeper hits. After its premiere last July, the film good terrific decent notices (a Metacritic rating of 71%) and then went on to gross over $115 million domestically on top of its estimated $19-million production budget. Girls Trip had an HD market share of 45% and sold 13% as many Blu-rays as Spider-Man and 22% as many total units.

Finally, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales list. The newest entry in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean series, Dead Men Tell No Tales did not make the same critical and commercial impact as many of its predecessors. The film garnered low critical notices (a Metacritic rating of 39%) and then went on to gross $172 million domestically on top of its estimated $230-million production budget (in fairness, the film did much better overseas, earning an additional $622 million in non-North American markets). On the Blu-ray-only list, Dead Men Tell No Tales had a strong HD market share of 76% and sold 12% as many Blu-rays as Spider-Man. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the Disney feature came in fourth place (behind the Mouse House's perennial Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus) sold 13% as many total units as the latest Marvel feature.
