Kino Lorber have detailed their upcoming Blu-ray release of director Lindsay Anderson's film
The Whales of August (1987), starring Bette Davis, Lillian Gish, Vincent Price, and Ann Sothern. The release will be available for purchase on December 5.
Synopsis: Two of the greatest motion picture actresses of all time-Bette Davis and Lillian Gish-unite their legendary talents in this beautifully photographed, intensely emotional drama that offers "unexpected and quite marvelous rewards" (The New York Times)!
Libby (Davis) and Sarah (Gish) are widowed siblings who have vacationed for half a century at a seaside cottage in Maine. Now in their eighties, the sisters have unexpectedly arrived at an impasse: While Sarah embraces change and the possibility of romance with a courtly Russian suitor (Vincent Price), the stubbornly bitter Libby rages at the inevitability of death.
As the summer months wane, can Libby and Sarah rediscover the powerful bonds of memory, family and love?

On December 19, Kino Lorber will also bring to Blu-ray director Alfred E. Green's western
Four Faces West (1948), starring Joel McCrea, Frances Dee, Charles Bickford, Joseph Calleia, Dan White, and William Conrad.
Synopsis: An honest man turned outlaw running for his life... A marshall with a conscience more just than the law... A gambler whose greatest risks are taken for a friend... A woman whose love for a fugitive knows no danger...
These are the four unforgettable characters facing the challenge of their lives when their paths cross on an innocent outlaw's compelling flight to freedom. A very different kind of sagebrush saga. This tough and touching classic is as emotionally charged as it is action-packed. Cinematography by Russell Harlan (Howard Hawks'
Red River,
Rio Bravo).
