For the week that ended on July 23rd, Warner Home Entertainment's Kong: Skull Island debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. A new attempt to reboot the giant-monster film genre, this action-adventure struggled to connect with critics and audiences last spring. It garnered mediocre critical notices (a Metacritic score of 62%) and grossed over $168 million domestically on top of its estimated $185-million production budget. This week, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 55%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's The Fate of the Furious. The eighth installment in the wildly successful Fast & Furious franchise made a huge impact with audiences this spring. Despite netting mediocre critical notices (a Metacritic score of 56%), The Fate of the Furious grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $250-million production budget. On the Blu-ray rankings, The Fate of the Furious sold 56% as many Blu-rays as Kong: Skull Island and had an HD market share of 59%. Regarding the overall package media rankings, the film sold 53% as many total units as Kong.

Finally, Warner's The LEGO Batman Movie filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. The film, which is a spinoff of 2014's hit The LEGO Movie, also performed well with critics and audiences. Like John Wick: Chapter 2, the film scored a good Metacritic score of 75%, and it earned over $310 million worldwide on top of its estimated $80-million production budget. The LEGO Batman Movie had an HD market share of 65% and sold 14% as many Blu-rays and 11% as many total units as Kong: Skull Island.
