For the week that ended on July 16th, Universal Studios Home Entertainment's The Fate of the Furious debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The eighth installment in the wildly successful Fast & Furious franchise made a huge impact with audiences this spring. Despite netting mediocre critical notices (a Metacritic score of 56%), The Fate of the Furious grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $250-million production budget. This week, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 65%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Smurfs: The Lost Village. Another family-friendly Smurfs adventure, The Lost Village nonetheless struggled to make an impact with critics and audiences last April. The Lost Village scored low critical notices (note its Metacritic score of 40%) and went on to gross $45 million domestically on top of its estimated $60-million production budget. On the Blu-ray rankings, The Lost Village sold 16% as many Blu-rays as The Fate of the Furious and had an HD market share of 42%. Regarding the overall package media rankings, the film sold 25% as many total units as the Fast & Furious thriller.

Finally, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Beauty and the Beast filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. This live-action remake of the iconic Disney animated classic was a huge hit with audiences this year. Beauty and the Beast might have scored only decent critical notices (a Metacritic score of 65%), but it went on to gross over $1.2 billion worldwide on top of its projected $160-million production budget. Beauty and the Beast had an HD market share of 56% and sold 7% as many Blu-rays as The Fate of the Furious and 8% as many total units.
