For the week that ended on June 18th, Summit and Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
John Wick: Chapter 2 debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. The violent follow-up to the cult 2014 actioner
John Wick,
Chapter 2 proved even more enduring than its predecessor.
John Wick: Chapter 2 scored solid critical notices (a Metacritic score of
75%) and then grossed over
$166 million worldwide, a sum that seems modest but represents a rather sizable achievement for a medium-budget, R-rated thriller. This week, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 64%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Beauty and the Beast. This live-action remake of
the iconic Disney animated classic was a huge hit with audiences this year.
Beauty and the Beast might have scored only decent critical notices (a Metacritic score of
65%), but it went on to gross over
$1.2 billion worldwide on top of its projected $160-million production budget.
Beauty and the Beast sold 86% as many Blu-rays as
John Wick: Chapter 2 (and had an HD market share of 61%) and 91% as many total units.
Finally, another animated feature - Warner Home Entertainment's
The LEGO Batman Movie - filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. The film, which is a spinoff of 2014's hit
The LEGO Movie, also performed well with critics and audiences. Like
John Wick: Chapter 2, the film scored a good Metacritic score of
75%, and it earned over
$310 million worldwide on top of its estimated $80-million production budget.
The LEGO Batman Movie had an HD market share of 64% and sold 84% as many Blu-rays and total units as the
John Wick sequel.
