For the week that ended on June 4th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Logan remained at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. A violent, emotionally wrenching extension of Hugh Jackman's popular Wolverine character,
Logan proved a hit with both critics and audiences.
Logan scored solid critical notices (a Metacritic score of
77%) and grossed over
$607 million worldwide on top of its projected $97-million production budget. This week,
Logan had a strong Blu-ray market share of 66%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Summit and Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
The Shack. This maudlin adaptation of the hit William P. Young novel was a modest success for its distributors.
The Shack scored low critical marks (a
32% score on Metacritic), but its box-office grosses were more impressive, given that it grossed
over $93 million worldwide.
The Shack sold 46% as many Blu-rays as
Logan (and had an HD market share of 34%) and 90% as many total units.
Finally, Universal Studios Home Entertainment's
The Great Wall filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking. Acclaimed director Yimou Zhang's blockbuster monster epic struggled to fight the kind of global crossover success that its distributors wanted.
The Great Wall did not score highly with critics, garnering a
42% score on Metacritic, and it could only muster abysmal domestic grosses
($45 million earned on top of an estimated $150-million production budget), although it received a boost from a strong international showing (an extra $286 million grossed). On the Blu-ray-only list,
The Great Wall had an HD market share of 53% and sold 19% as many Blu-rays as
Logan. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the film came in fourth place (behind Warner and New Line's raunchy comedy
Fist Fight) and sold 24% as many total units as the
X-Men-adjacent thriller.
