For the week that ended on May 28th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
Logan debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. A violent, emotionally wrenching extension of Hugh Jackman's popular Wolverine character,
Logan proved a hit with both critics and audiences.
Logan scored solid critical notices (a Metacritic score of
77%) and grossed over
$607 million worldwide on top of its projected $97-million production budget. This week,
Logan had a strong Blu-ray market share of 73%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's
The Great Wall. Acclaimed director Yimou Zhang's blockbuster monster epic struggled to fight the kind of global crossover success that its distributors wanted.
The Great Wall did not score highly with critics, garnering a
42% score on Metacritic, and it could only muster abysmal domestic grosses
($45 million earned on top of an estimated $150-million production budget), although it received a boost from a strong international showing (an extra $286 million grossed). On the Blu-ray-only list,
The Great Wall had an HD market share of 60% and sold 19% as many Blu-rays as
Logan. Regarding the overall package-media chart, the film sold 23% as many total units as the
X-Men-adjacent thriller.
Finally, another Universal title -
Get Out - filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. This racially satirical horror film (the directorial debut from comedian Jordan Peele) is the sleeper hit of 2017.
Get Out performed incredibly well with critics (
vide its Metacritic score of
84% - already people are discussing the film as a possible contender for Best Original Screenplay) and
grossed over $175 million domestically on top of its $4.5-million microbudget.
Get Out sold 16% as many Blu-rays as
Logan (it also had a Blu-ray market share of 58%) and 20% as many total units.
