For the week that ended on March 19th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Moana remained at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. This spirited animated comedy was a critical and commercial success for its distributor last fall. The film grossed over $606 million worldwide, and it also scored very good critical notices (an 81% favorability rating on Metacritic), even netting Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song and Best Animated Film at this year's Oscar ceremony. This week, Moana had a Blu-ray market share of 56%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists was Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Passengers. Director Morten Tyldum's sci-fi-romance struggled to connect with North American audiences despite the combined star wattage of leads Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The film grossed over $99 million domestically on top of its estimated $110-million production budget, and it only garnered poor critical notices (a 41% favorability rating on Metacritic). Passengers sold 60% as many Blu-rays (and had a Blu-ray market share of 46%) and 73% as many total units as Moana.

Finally, Marvel and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Doctor Strange filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only sales chart. Another high-profile superhero adventure in the MCU's big-screen endeavors, Doctor Strange proved both a critical and commercial success for its distributors last fall. The film grossed over $677 million worldwide on top of its estimated $165-million production budget, and it also scored solid critical notices (a 72% favorability rating on Metacritic), even netting an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects at this year's Oscar ceremony. On the Blu-ray-only ranking, Doctor Strange sold 21% as many Blu-rays as Moana and had a Blu-ray market share of 65%. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film came in fourth place - behind Paramount's Fences - and sold 22% as many total units as the Disney Animated entertainment.
