For the week that ended on February 26th, Lionsgate and Summit Home Entertainment's Hacksaw Ridge debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. Based on the true story of WWII hero Desmond Doss, Hacksaw Ridge was not only a critical and commercial success but also a major Hollywood comeback for its director, the controversial filmmaker Mel Gibson. Nominated for six Academy Awards (of which it won two), Gibson's film scored solid critical notices (a 71% score on Metacritic) and grossed just over $175 million worldwide on top of its estimated $40-million production budget. This week, Hacksaw Ridge had a Blu-ray market share of 54%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists was DreamWorks Home Entertainment's Trolls. This animated adventure was a modest success with critics and audiences during its fall theatrical release. Its critical notices were okay (a 56% score on Metacritic), and it grossed just over $153 million domestically on top of its estimated $125-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only ranking, Trolls sold 63% as many Blu-rays as Trolls and had a Blu-ray market share of 53%. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film sold 65% as many total units as Gibson's violent war drama.

Finally, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Arrival filled out the top-three spots on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales charts. Nominated for eight Academy Awards (and winner of one), this cerebral sci-fi drama was a major success for its distributor last fall. Arrival mustered a very strong Metacritic score of 81%, and that critical appreciation exists alongside good box-office earnings; the film grossed just under $197 million worldwide on top of its modest $47 million-production budget. Arrival sold 29% as many Blu-rays as Hacksaw Ridge (and had a Blu-ray market share of 59%) and 27% as many total units.
