PS3 Firmware v1.80 Expected Tomorrow

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that they will be releasing firmware version 1.80 for the PS3 which adds many additional features to the console. Those who use it as a Blu-ray player will now be glad to here that the PS3 will upscale DVDs (as well as PS1 and PS2 games) to 1080p via an HDMI connection, similar to the capability of stand-alone Blu-ray players. Also of interest is the addition of DNLA3 support which will allow content to be shared over a home network between DNLA3 compatible devices. Additionally, support will be added for a remote play feature for the PSP. So if you have a PSP, you will now be able to access content from your PS3 around the globe (as long as you are on a wireless connection). Edit: We have also received word that this update offers support for 1080p24 (outputting 24fps for those of you with displays that support that resolution) and downconverting Blu-ray movies to 720p (if your display is 720p, this is the best resolution for you to use). Additionally, Whiter-than-white (WTW) and Blacker-than-black (BTB) issues have been fixed, as well as pillarboxing for 4:3 content. This update has a bunch of surprises to it.
