For the week that ended on February 5th, Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back premiered at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings. A sequel to
the 2012 sleeper hit Jack Reacher,
Never Go Back struggled to connect with critics and audiences. Its critical notices were medicore (
a 47% score on Metacritic), and it
grossed just under $59 million domestically on top of its estimated $60-million production budget. This week,
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back had a Blu-ray market share of 59%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales list was the new Signature Edition of Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Pinocchio. One of the most celebrated motion pictures ever made,
Pinocchio did not find universal acclaim following its release in 1940. The film was initially a box-office failure, with home video and a number of successful theatrical re-releases helping to cement the animated adventure's reputation as a modern classic. On the Blu-ray-only chart,
Pinocchio sold 66% as many copies as
Never Go Back and had a robust HD market share of 87%. Regarding the overall package-media list, the Disney favorite came in third place and sold 45% as many total units as the Tom Cruise-starring actioner.
Finally, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween rounded out the top-three titles on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings. Tyler Perry's latest comedy made a big impression with audiences even as it suffered less-than positive critical notices; while it only netted a low
Metacritic score of 30%, the movie then went on to
gross $73 million domestically on top of a modest $20-million production budget.
Boo! A Madea Halloween sold 29% as many Blu-rays as
Never Go Back (and had a Blu-ray market share of 20%), and on the overall package-media chart, the film came in second place and sold 88% as many total units as the
Jack Reacher sequel.
