Optiarc - the joint optical drive venture between Sony Electronics and NEC - has released their first drive since showing their intentions back at CeBIT. The BD-M100A is a Blu-ray reader and 2x writer and has additional support for reading and writing DVDs and CDs, similar to other drives on the market. The drive is now available across Europe.
It is, however, unfortunate that this drive still relies on an IDE connection when so many systems are now using the faster SATA standard. Prices vary across Europe, but those in the UK should expect to pay £400.
