Posted December 12, 2016 06:09 PM by Webmaster

Last month, U.S. label Cult Epics launched a campaign to restore and bring to Blu-ray five cult and rare films. They are Marco Ferreri's The Flesh (1991), Nico B's 100 Girls by Bunny Yeager (1998-2016), Carl Andersen's Mondo Weirdo/Vampiros Sexos (1988/1991), Pim de La Parra's Obsessions (1969), and Agusti Villaronga's Moon Child (1989).

Folks from the label have now informed us that they are already running preliminary lab tests on some of the titles that are included in the campaign. Supplemental features are also being worked on for Marco Ferreri's The Flesh.

The Indigogo campaign has also been expanded with additional perks for people that wish to support the project. It can be accessed here.

Meanwhile, to support the campaign Cult Epics has also announced theatrical screenings of some its best titles, including Agustí Villaronga's In a Glass Cage and Gerald Kargl's Angst. (See announcement sheet below).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Official label statement: Over the past 25 years, Los Angeles based Cult Epics has released nearly 150 videos of the most sought after, obscure, provocative and previously unknown films to the home video market. As the video distribution model continues to evolve, additional funds are required for transfers, restoration, production, replication and rights acquisitions. Now, Cult Epics is reaching out to our fans & film lovers to help support us in our efforts to continue bringing you new releases in definitive editions.

Being a niche distributor with a small operation, Cult Epics releases an average of 6 to 12 films per year. If you are a fan of our label or simply like some of our releases, please support the future of independent cinema as presented by no other label, including the most memorable films by visionary directors, who are not afraid of controversy, always ahead of their time. We need your help to get the next 5 titles off the ground which we are offering in advance of general release as Perks, and we are currently negotiating the rights to some of the most sought after cult movies for Blu-ray/DVD. Your support is needed to continue our journey.

MONDO WEIRDO/VAMPIROS SEXOS (1988/1991) dir. Carl Andersen.

3 Disc Limited Edition (BD/DVD/CD Soundtrack)

VAMPIROS SEXOS aka I WAS A TEENAGE ZABBADOING… is one of the weirdest movies ever, and it will certainly shock your mind. Viewers discretion advised! Vampiros Sexos aka Teenage Zabbadoing is the Austrian answer to the Cinema of Transgression of Richard Kern and Nick Zedd, except more extreme, eccentric and genuinely erotic. Shot on 16mm film stock, VAMPIROS SEXOS is the ultimate European underground punk rock hardcore sex vampire film. Stylish and trashy at the same time, the film also features the ultimate no-wave score by Model D'oo. Bonus features incl. the short experimental film What's So Dirty About It? (1990) and newly produced Making of.

MONDO WEIRDO: A TRIP TO PARANOIA PARADISE aka JUNGFRAU IM ABGRUND Carl Andersen's second film is in a similar style to his first film, yet manages to surpass it in terms of art, surrealism and obscenity, Dedicated to Jess Franco and Jean Luc-Godard and featuring Franco's own daughter, MONDO WEIRDO wallows in sleaze, gore, splatter, and dark comedy and is set in an underground world where both vampires and punk rockers engage in straight, lesbian & gay hardcore sex to the highly addictive and hypnotic electro music of Model D'oo. Bonus features include newly produced Making of. "The Hard-core version of Eraserhead." –Jan Doense (Weekend of Terror).

100 GIRLS BY BUNNY YEAGER (1998-2016) dir. Nico B. BD

A homage to 50s Pin up photography. Bunny Yeager, 'the worlds prettiest photographer', started out as a beauty contest winner and professional photographer's model in the 50's. She established herself as one of America's top ten glamour photographers throught out the 50's and 60's for Playboy and other magazines. This pictorial shows 100 of her most glamorous models, featuring her most famous one Bettie Page, and includes photographs and original footage of Bunny with the girls behind the scenes. Narrated by Bunny Yeager, who past away in 2014. Includes new bonus features incl. featurette of Bunny's never before seen photos of Bettie Page, as shown at the Catalina Island Museum in 2016, w/Collectible Slipcase & inner sleeve.

THE FLESH (aka La Carne) (1991) dir. Marco Ferreri. BD/DVD Combo

THE FLESH is a dark romantic-comedy about a divorced piano player named Paolo (Sergio Castellitto) who meets and falls in love with a most beauteously busty woman (bombshell Francesca Dellera), who uses her special powers to turn the man into her sex-slave. The film depicts the oftentimes torturous nature of carnal desire and the erotic power of women in a cinematic work where Francesca becomes a symbolic representation of male desire, with her voluptuous figure and sex appeal being intoxicating to Paolo. While he is completely taken by his desire for Francesca, she eventually gets bored with Paolo and decides to leave him. Unfortunately for Francesca, Paolo loves her and has no intention of allowing her to leave.... Francesca Dellera was once named in real-life as, "the most beautiful woman in the world." She began her career with Tinto Brass' Capriccio, but it was not until her role in La Carne, which premiered at Cannes, that she received international acclaim. Directed by Italian maestro Marco Ferreri, who is best known for such classics as Tales of Ordinary Madness and La Grand Bouffe, THE FLESH is presented by Cult Epics for the first time in High-definition with bonus features.

OBSESSIONS (1969) dir. Pim de La Parra. BD/DVD Combo

Hitchcock, Scorsese & Sex, Made in Holland.

The Obscure film OBSESSIONS (aka HOLE IN THE WALL) was directed by Dutch artsploitation auteur Pim de La Parra and co-produced by his longtime collaborator Wim Verstappen (Blue Movie). This gritty psychedelic Hitchcockian mystery, which is notable for being the first Dutch English-language film, starts in a savagely brutal fashion when a bloody painting of Vincent van Gogh falls from a wall and exposes a makeshift peephole that eventually leads to student protagonist Nils Janssen (Dieter Giessler) becoming an unwitting witness to a gruesome sex crime next door. When his young fiancée Marina (Alexandra Stewart of Truffaut's DAY FOR NIGHT), an enterprising journalist, tells him about a report of a murder that she is writing, he naturally wonders if one has to do with the other. This classic exploitation film was the birth of auteur cinema in Holland, and inspired filmmakers such as legendary Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven to make films. Originally released in over 80 countries, the film stayed unreleased in the U.S. (and France) until now. Arguably most notably, the film was co-written by a-then-young Martin Scorsese. Scored by legendary Hitchcock composer Bernard Herrmann (who later scored TAXI DRIVER). Includes new HD Transfer and bonus features.

MOON CHILD (1989) dir. Agusti Villaronga. BD/DVD Combo

Inspired by famed occultist Aleister Crowley's 1923 novel of the same name, Agusti Villaronga's film centers around the extraordinary 12-year-old David (Enrique Saldana), who has been adopted by a treacherous scientific cult where extraordinary mental powers are common. He begins an archetypal journey across two continents with Georgina (Lisa Gerrard) to find his destiny as Child of the Moon. Coming on the heels of Villaronga's unforgettable 1986 film, In a Glass Cage, MOON CHILD is a mystical fantasy masterpiece available for the first time on Blu-ray & DVD in the United States. Presented in a new High Definition transfer and boasting an unreleased soundtrack by the band Dead Can Dance, Moon Child is a thoroughly unique gift to cinema and music fans alike.
