As the Blu-ray sales gain momentum, you will continue to see more and more classic films being brought to the high definition format. Studios love selling the same film to you multiple times, and cashing in on Blu-ray is a concrete part of their strategy. Today is no different, with Fox's release of '
Planet Of The Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection', which is yet another treat delivered to classic film fans.
Along with the box set, Fox is allowing fans to pick up the titles individually. Not surprisingly, the first film in the series - '
The Planet of the Apes' - is much more popular than the sequels, and will no doubt sell many copies to those not looking to pick up the entire set. And even those who are picking up all five titles my opt to buy they individually in order to skip the oddly shaped box the set comes in.
On the new releases front, Warner is delivering '
Get Smart', while First Look Studios brings viewers the wonderfully
reviewed film '
Transsiberian'.
Blue Underground has delivered a great release with '
The Final Countdown', something that is sure to excite cult film fans as the studio has many more titles coming. Personally, I was very impressed with their inclusion of both DTS-HD MA 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtracks. While the bickering between which sound format is better is typically kept at a low volume amongst fans, its nice when a studios has the ability to let viewers choose for themselves.
I'm not sure when to mention this, but '
Kung Fu Panda' is coming out this weekend instead of the normal Tuesday release.
