For the week that ended on October 16th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Ghostbusters took the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings. This controversial remake of the
1984 comedy classic struggled to make a lasting impact with fans and critics. The horror comedy scored an average
ranking of 60%, and it only
grossed back $128 million domestically on top of its estimated $144 million-production budget. This week,
Ghostbusters had a Blu-ray market share of 50%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales list was Warner Home Entertainment's adventure epic
The Legend of Tarzan. Like
Ghostbusters,
Tarzan had trouble connecting with audiences. The film netted a low
Metacritic grade of 44% and then grossed just
$126 million domestically on top of its estimated $180-million production budget. On the Blu-ray-only list,
The Legend of Tarzan sold 57% as many discs as
Ghostbusters and had a Blu-ray market share of 46%. And regarding the overall package-media chart,
Tarzan sold 61% as many discs as the
Ghostbusters remake.
Finally, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's
X-Men: Apocalypse rounded out the top-three titles on the Blu-ray-only rankings. The latest in the recent
X-Men prequel trilogy,
Apocalypse struggled to make it past mediocre critical and commercial receptions. The film netted a so-so
Metacritic grade of 52% and only grossed
$155 million domestically on top of its estimated $178-million production budget. In terms of the Blu-ray-only list, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 60% and sold 35% as many Blu-rays as
