For the week that ended on September 25th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Beauty and the Beast went to the top of the Blu-ray-only media ranking. This beloved animated favorite is enjoying its twenty-fifth anniversary, which began with a spate of critical and commercial praise. In 1991, the film grossed over $424 million worldwide on top of its estimated $25-million production budget, and it scored solid critical admiration as well, eventually nabbing an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. This week, Beauty and the Beast had a Blu-ray market share of 100%.

However, the film had to contend with Paramount Home Media Distribution's release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. The sequel to 2014's Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Out of the Shadows struggled to make much in the way of a positive critical or commercial impact. The film grossed just over $82 million domestically (on top of its estimated $135-million production budget), and it scored a low Metacritic grade of 40%. By comparison, its home-media showing was much stronger. On the Blu-ray-only list, Out of the Shadows sold 78% as many discs as Beauty and the Beast and had a Blu-ray market share of 68%. And regarding the overall package-media chart, Beauty and the Beast outpaced the Disney classic, knocking Beauty and the Beast down to third place and taking the top position.

Finally, Marvel and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Captain America: Civil War rounded out the top three positions on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings. The latest installment in the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, Civil War stands as one of 2016's biggest hits. In addition to its solid Metacritic score of 75%, the film has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide on top of its $250-million production budget. In terms of the Blu-ray-only list, the film had a Blu-ray market share of 67% and sold 69% as many Blu-rays as Beauty and the Beast. On the overall package-media chart, it rose to second place, selling 90% as many total units as Out of the Shadows.
