Stagecoach

A group of unlikely traveling companions find themselves on the same stagecoach to Cheyenne. They include a drunken doctor, a bar girl who's been thrown out of town, a professional gambler, a traveling liquor salesman, a banker who has decided to embezzle money, a gunslinger out for revenge and a young woman going to join her army captain husband. All have secrets but when they are set upon by an Indian war party and then a family of outlaws, they find they must all work together if they are to stay alive.

Panic in the Streets

When a body is found in the New Orleans docks, it's pretty obvious that he died from gun shot wounds. The police surgeon notices that the man is also displaying other symptoms and Lt. Commander Clint Reed, a doctor with the U.S. Public Health Service, diagnoses a highly contagious disease, pneumonic plague. He tries to convince local officials to find everyone who may have been in contact with the dead man. The Mayor supports his efforts but many, including the police, are doubtful. Reed wants to avoid publicity so as not to panic the public. They have little information to go on - they don't know the dead man's identity - and Reed estimates they have 48 hours before disease begins to spread. With police Capt. Tom Warren going through the motions, Reed sets out to find the killers.

The Sun Also Rises

The most compelling characters ever created by Ernest Hemingway are brought to life by an equally awe-inspiring cast for this "excellent" (New York Herald Tribune) and stunningly faithful adaptation of the author's The Sun Also Rises!

In 1920s Paris, a group of disillusioned expatriates pursues a life of utter debauchery: American veteran Jake Barnes (Tyrone Power) lives under the cloud of an emasculating war injury; Lady Brett Ashley (Ava Gardner) substitutes a life of promiscuity for the love she cannot share with Jake; Mike Campbell (Errol Flynn) deliberately douses his passions with alcohol; Robert Cohn (Mel Ferrer) becomes more and more hopelessly obsessed with Brett; and Bill Gorton (Eddie Albert) lives faster than his writing can entail. Each member of this "lost generation" clings to the bohemian lifestyle that Paris bars and Spanish bullrings offer... living as though they were about to die.

Special Features:
  • Audio Commentary by film historians Patricia King Hanson and Frank Thompson
  • Featurette: The Old Men and The Bulls: The Making of The Sun Also Rises
  • Featurette - Hemingway on Film
  • Audio conversation with director Henry King

Guns at Batasi

Two-time Oscar winner Richard Attenborough (1982 Best Director and Best Picture, Gandhi) stars as a dedicated British soldier caught in the midst of a revolution in Africa in this compelling war drama. Co-starring Mia Farrow (in her film debut), Guns At Batasi is an "intriguing, thought-provoking" (Hollywood Citizen-News) and "rousing tale!" (The New Yorker).

When the head of the British military in Africa is instructed to turn over command to the native militia, he defies orders and arms himself and his followers with a cache of weapons. When Regimental Sergeant Major Lauderdale (Attenborough) learns of this defiance, he springs into action with all the authority at his command, knowing full well that he's the only thing that stands between order-and massacre!

Special Features:
  • Audio Commentary by actor John Leyton
