Blu-ray Sales, July 4-10: Kung Fu Panda 3 Holds Fast

For the week that ended on July 10th, DreamWorks Home Entertainment's Kung Fu Panda 3 remained at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The third installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, Kung Fu Panda 3 was a solid box-office hit when it debuted last January. The film grossed almost $519 million worldwide, and it scored an average Metacritic score of 66%. This week, Kung Fu Panda 3 had a Blu-ray market share of 47%.

Next on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's Zootopia. This animated adventure - the latest from Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore - was a box-office smash when it debuted last March. Zootopia grossed just over $1 billion worldwide, and it scored a respectable Metacritic score of 78%. In terms of sales percentages, Zootopia sold 71% as many Blu-rays as Kung Fu Panda 3 (and had a Blu-ray market share of 43%) and 78% as many total units.

Finally, Twentieth Century Home Entertainment's Deadpool rounded out the top three positions on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media rankings. Director Tim Miller's raunchy action-comedy was a huge success when it premiered last February. Deadpool grossed over $762 million worldwide on top of its estimated $53-million production budget, and it scored an 65% favorability rating on Metacritic. On the Blu-ray-only list, Deadpool sold 29% as many discs as Kung Fu Panda 3 and had a Blu-ray market share of 50%. Regarding the overall package-media chart, Deadpool sold 28% as many total units as the DreamWorks hit.
