For the week that ended on July 3rd, DreamWorks Home Entertainment's
Kung Fu Panda 3 debuted at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. The third installment in the
Kung Fu Panda franchise,
Kung Fu Panda 3 was a solid box-office hit when it debuted last January. The film
grossed almost $519 million worldwide, and it scored an
average Metacritic score of 66%. This week,
Kung Fu Panda 3 had a Blu-ray market share of 54%.
Next on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's
Zootopia. This animated adventure - the latest from
Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore - was a box-office smash when it debuted last March.
Zootopia grossed just over $1 billion worldwide, and it scored a
respectable Metacritic score of 78%. In terms of sales percentages,
Zootopia sold 43% as many Blu-rays as
Kung Fu Panda 3 (and had a Blu-ray market share of 47%) and 49% as many total units.
Finally, Paramount Home Media Distribution's
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi rounded out the top three positions on the Blu-ray-only media ranking. A violent, relentlessly-paced rendering of the controversial 2012 Benghazi attacks, director Michael Bay's latest film was a modest earner for the studio last January.
13 Hours grossed over $69 million worldwide on top of its estimated $50-million production budget, and it scored a
48% favorability rating on Metacritic. On the Blu-ray-only list,
13 Hours sold 17% as many discs as
Kung Fu Panda 3 and had a Blu-ray market share of 59%. Regarding the overall package-media chart,
13 Hours came in fifth place (behind
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and
Deadpool) and sold 15% as many total units as the DreamWorks hit.
