For the week that ended on April 24th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's The Revenant premiered at the top of the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu's brutal survival drama netted its distributors both critical and commercial plaudits last year. The Revenant grossed over $521 million worldwide on top of its estimated $135-million production budget, and it scored a 76% favorability rating on Metacritic, a rating that helped translate the film's success into three Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. This week, The Revenant had a Blu-ray market share of 52%.

Next on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts was Lucasfilm and Disney Home Entertainment's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. The latest adventure in the iconic Star Wars franchise made a huge commercial impact when it hit theaters last December. The Force Awakens grossed over $2 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $245-million production budget, and it scored an 81% favorability rating on Metacritic. Furthermore, during its first week on home media, The Force Awakens outsold its remaining nineteen Blu-ray and DVD competitors in the Top 20 VideoScan charts nearly five to one. The Force Awakens had a Blu-ray market share of 68% and sold 73% as many Blu-rays and 56% as many total units as The Revenant.

Finally, Well Go USA's Ip Man 3 rounded out the top three positions on the Blu-ray-only and overall home-media rankings. The most recent installment in the Ip Man Trilogy helped illustrate a stark discrepancy between domestic and international markets. While the film evinced a mediocre performance in North America this January, grossing only about $2.6 million domestically (and garnering an okay 57% Metacritic score, it earned more than $154 million in foreign territories. Ip Man 3 had a Blu-ray market share of 48% and sold 9% as many Blu-rays and 10% as many total units as The Revenant.
