Cohen Media will add to its Blu-ray catalog two films from acclaimed director Philippe De Broca: Five Day Lover (1961) and On Guard a.k.a. Le Bossu (1997). The double-feature release will be available for purchase on August 9.
Synopsis: Following Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless, Jean Seberg was the embodiment of "cool." Here she stars as a restless wife and mother who catches the eye (and vice versa) of a dashing womanizer. She soon finds herself enjoying afternoon trysts at his bachelor pad, only later learning that he is also her friend's kept lover. The early career of Philippe de Broca is enjoying a reassessment thanks to the rerelease of films such as That Man from Rio, recently restored by the Cohen Collection. Five Day Lover is a great example of his early 60s comedies and offers an entertaining window on the blossoming sexual revolution. (Text courtesy of WexArts). Starring Jean Seberg, Micheline Presle, Jean-Pierre Cassel, François Périer, and Carlo Croccolo.
NEW RESTORATION of the film completed by TF1 International in France.
Synopsis: 1997 adaptation of the 1858 novel by Paul Feval. After meeting his hero, the wealthy Duc de Nevers (Vincent Perez), in Paris, swordsman Legardere (Daniel Auteuil) becomes his sworn protector. Nevers' life is under threat from his cousin, Gonzague (Fabrice Luchini), who has employed an assassin to get rid of him. When Nevers arrives in Caylus to wed Blanche (Claire Nebout), the mother of his child, he and his guests are slaughtered. Blanche is kidnapped by Gonzague, but Legardere escapes, taking with him Nevers' young daughter, Aurore. Sixteen years later, Aurore (Marie Gillain) is unaware of her parentage until she and Legardere arrive again in Paris, where Gonzague is now a powerful banker. Starring Daniel Auteuil, Fabrice Luchini, Vincent Pérez, Marie Gillain, and Yann Collette.
