StudioCanal have sent us a brand new trailer for the new 4K restoration of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's classic film Ran. The restoration will open in cinemas across the United Kingdom on April 1.

A Blu-ray release of the recent restoration will be available for purchase on May 2.

About the restoration: The film has been restored based on a 4K scan by the French laboratory Éclair, under StudioCanal's supervision. Based on an original negative, the majority of the restoration work was done manually, frame by frame, with the film's Director of Photography, Mr. Ueda, approving the color grading. Synopsis: With Ran, legendary director Akira Kurosawa reimagines Shakespeare's King Lear as a singular historical epic set in sixteenth-century Japan. Majestic in scope, the film is Kurosawa's late-life masterpiece, a profound examination of the folly of war and the crumbling of one family under the weight of betrayal, greed, and the insatiable thirst for power.

Note: In the United States, the new 4K restoration of Ran will open Friday February 26 at New York's Film Forum.
