Not to be left out of the huge push of new Blu-ray burners and recorders debuting at CEATEC, Panasonic debuted five new Blu-ray players / recorders / burners for the Japanese market. The BW930 with 1 terabyte of storage, the BW830 with 500 GB, BW730 with 320 GB, BR630V with 320 GB, a VHS recorder and no Blu-ray burning capabilities and the more basic BR500 with 250GB of storage and no burning ability are all set to debut in Japanese stores this fall. Pricing has not been announced at this time. As is the case with all of the player / recorder / burner units being displayed at CEATEC, none of these players is intended for western markets.
Panasonic has also chosen CEATEC to tout their new green initiative in all of their consumer electronics products. Building products that do their part to reduce power consumption is a priority to Panasonic. Their newest range of Blu-ray players use 40% of the power required by players released earlier this year. This was displayed for the eager crowd by showing a DMP-BD30 and the new DMP-BD35 connected to volt meters. As promised, the new player does use considerably less power than the previous model when displaying the same content. It was a compelling demonstration and Panasonic promises to reduce power consumption even further as their products continue to develop.
