Sony Pictures Acquires International Rights to Blade Runner Sequel

Sony Pictures will distribute internationally the upcoming sequel of Ridley Scott's classic film Blade Runner. The sequel will be produced by Alcon Entertainment, which acquired the rights to Blade Runner in 2011.

Warner Bros. has the North American distribution rights.

The sequel will be diercted by Canadian helmer Denis Villeneuve and lensed by acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins. Previously, the two teamed up on teamed up on Prisoners (2013) and on the Palme d'Or nominated Sicario (2015).

The cast includes Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, who will reprise his iconic role as Rick Deckard.

Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the script for the original film, and Michael Green (Green Lantern) wrote the script for the new film.

Shooting will begin this July.
